Flyer for "The Photographers Workshop" Dec. 6th 2011

The newly designed and updated ASMP Long Island website makes its debut this month with a style and branding that now mirrors the ASMP National site. Thanks go to our designer
and webmaster Kurt Glen.

We are now part of the corporate family established by the ASMP National organization.

This past year the Long Island Chapter has hosted some very well-received and well attended events and seminars.

Our most recent event was the “I Stink at Negotiating Seminar” moderated
by Blake Discher. Blake presented an entertaining and enlightening seminar on how to approach the ‘art of negotiating and doing business’ in these tough economic times.  He covered the bidding, estimating, negotiating and invoicing process and suggested effective ways for photographers to handle even very difficult clients. His approach to problem solving and managing resources is what has made him one of Detroit’s most successful shooters.

Nick Vedros visited our chapter recently too with an entertaining and informative presentation of his work, stories about his clients, tales of his exploits and adventures and he left most attendees inspired with a new enthusiasm.
Michael Greco addressed the Chapter recently and brought us all into the world of publishing and advertising, lighting and self-promotion and explained how he has managed to rise to the top in this very competitive field.

CanonUSA and its Explorers of Light program has graciously supported the chapter by bringing in these speakers and supporting our efforts to keep our members up-to-date with what is new.

For the next year the Board of Directors has planned another series of events that
will include several casual get-togethers where members can show their work and exchange thoughts with art directors, art buyers, designers and other photographers while enjoying drinks and food.  We are currently designing and planning an outing or two that will function as a workshop on landscape and wildlife photography. And, throughout the year we will be presenting some of the industry’s most interesting, successful and creative talents.

ASMP is a volunteer organization and we welcome input from our members. We would like to hear any ideas or suggestions you have in regards to programs, seminars, speakers or venues that you would like to attend. Please stay in touch.

     Best regards,
